SCALLOP

SCALLOP takes a single motif and attempts to exhaust it within the short duration of the piece. The piece came out of my reaction to video footage of sea bed dredging for scallops shown in a David Attenborough documentary. The sea bed is devastated by this process. I went on to watch several videos of several UK government environmental policy and action meetings focussed on this specific area and was struck by the almost monotone delivery of all of these conversations. I expected it to be more impassioned. The principle gesture in this work is taken from the overriding speech intonation of one of these meetings. I wanted to take a simple object and drain it of all it's potential to continue existing.
