Rhomb in Silhouette for String Quartet

Emily Howard (Composer)

Research output: Non-textual formComposition

Abstract

Rhomb in Silhouette for string quartet begins in stillness, unhurried, a slow unfolding that gradually quickens, whorling with intense energy before patiently subsiding into silence; an ever-ascending melody, tracing a diagonal path across the rhomb.

Rhomb in Silhouette responds to a brass sculpture Rhombus, 2017, developed by the artist Germaine Kruip in collaboration with Thein Brass.

Commissioned and produced by Factory International, Manchester.

Version for Percussion and String Quartet first performed on 17, 18, 19 and 20 July 2025 as part of Germaine Kruip's A Possibility at the Royal Northern College of Music as part of Manchester International Festival.
