Project Details
Description
This is a collaborative project with Olympias Music Foundation. The intention of the doctorate is to look at new models of music teaching practice emerging from the Global Music Teacher Training programme.
In this programme three musicians from Global Majority backgrounds living in Manchester were recruited as teachers and offered training to develop their teaching practice over 18 months.
The models of practice developed by the teachers on the project have potential in two areas: Firstly in how teachers today can develop their practice to more sensitively teach Global Majority musical traditions and secondly with teacher educators and policymakers who can work to engage with the problems of low uptake and representation in music education.
