Graduate of the Royal College of Music and L’Institut Jaques-Dalcroze Geneva, Professor Karin Greenhead has performed as a pianist, harpsichordist, violinist, singer (Opera, recital and choirs) and conductor and has developed an international reputation as a teacher of Dalcroze Eurhythmics (DE) to professional and student musicians and a trainer of professional Dalcroze teachers. She has also worked extensively with dancers (Royal Ballet School; Central School of Ballet; Northern Ballet Theatre), and with children from 3-years old upwards and adults with a wide range of interests.

Karin works regularly as a freelance artist and teacher throughout Europe, USA, and Canada and has been a frequent guest teacher in Australia, Japan and S.E Asia. She taught improvisation and Dalcroze Eurhythmics in instrumental teaching for four years at the Conservatorio di Ferrara and for the last 6 years she has been an annual guest teacher helping with teacher training and examination Hansei University, Seoul. At RNCM, she taught the RNCM Dalcroze modules of the prize-winning Junior Strings project, attached to the PGCE with Specialist Strings (1992-2008) in addition to short courses and classes for other schools. Currently she teaches DE and DR on the Post-Graduate programme at RNCM and is a member of the Post-Graduate research supervision team for masters and doctoral students.

From a background in practical work as a performer and teacher, Karin began writing for publication in 1999. She has established a reputation for research and publication in Dalcroze-related fields, music-movement relationships and research methodologis relating to practical teaching. She presents frequently at international conferences and is a founder member of the scientific committee of the biennial International Conference of Dalcroze Studies (ICDS). She was a Keynote presenter for ICDS3.

Dynamic Rehearsal (DR) is her application of Dalcroze principles to the rehearsal and performance of musical repertoire, solo and ensemble, also the subject of her PhD: Dalcroze Eurhythmics and Dynamic Rehearsal: A phenomenological investigation into participants’ experiences and their implications for the practice, teaching and learning of music and musical performance, 2019.

She is Director of Studies for Dalcroze UK; Co-Director of the Dalcroze Eurhythmics International Examination Board (DEIEB); Secretary to the Collège of the Institut Jaques Dalcroze, Geneva and Chair of its new Translation and Publication Committee.
